Tyler Winkelman, MD, MSc
Dr. Winkelman is an internist, pediatrician, and health services researcher at Hennepin County Medical Center in the Division of General Internal Medicine and an assistant professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He completed his medical school and Med-Peds training at the University of Minnesota. He obtained a master’s degree in health and health care research at the University of Michigan through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program.
Dr. Winkelman studies the impact of health insurance and health care services for low-income individuals, particularly those with a history of criminal justice involvement. He is also interested in disorders that disproportionately impact justice-involved individuals like mental health and substance use disorders. His work has been published in JAMA IM, JAMA Pediatrics, American Journal of Public Health, and Journal of General Internal Medicine.
Fun Fact: He was an “All-state” tuba player in North Dakota!
